Cookie Cutters

I'm not a cookie baker myself, but I know you all are and my new DIL has asked for gingerbread and Christmas cookie cutters. Is there anything that defines a cookie cutter? Things to look for or avoid? Any sources you'd recommend? Thanks in advance.

I watched Alton Brown's cookie show and he likes the plastic ones. no rust and no

bending out of shape. I use all sorts, but for a young baker, I would buy some of the big plastic ones(walmart, micheals etc) that are easy to handle.

I am not really a baker either, so I can't give you advise...BUT, I think it is so wonderful that

your new DIL asked for cookie cutters....Won't break your budget, will be used every year, (Were she will think of you), and if she does not cook, she is aligning with you on your love for working in the kitchen!

Very special!!

Ignore the flimsy ones. They'll bend, and lose their shape over time. I like the copper

ones, but they tend to be more expensive. But hey, 2 or 3 of them would make a nice gift, along with a jar of cookie mix (with instructions to add the liquid ingredients).

Nice! And you just gave me an idea for my last Christmas gift I have to buy for the not-easy-to-buy-for person on my list. Thanks!
