How long is canned goods good for?

I just 'found' two cans of pumpkin pie filling (expired in april 2008) and a box of cranberry jello (expired in....uhm....2004).

DON'T ASK! *LOL*

 
I'd say ditch the pumpkin pie filling, keep the jello (in a box?)

They say if a can still has the vacuum (no bulging!) it's safe, but I'd throw it. Hmm, cranberry jello - never heard of that before - sounds good!
