Mini Carrot Cake Bites from Sandra Lee--just saw this five minutes ago. I always trash her,

so I thought I should give her credit for a nice idea.

She made carrot cake in mini muffin tins, let them cool, slpit them in half, and used the cream cheese frosting as a filling. Then she piped a little star of frosting on top.

She used a cake mix, and inexplicably put grated carrots in the frosting, but still, it would be a great way to include carrot cake in a selection of bite size desserts, using a good recipe. I wouldn't have thought of it.

(OK, I turned Tyler on and went outside for a minute. I came back in and there she was. I watched. Please don't hate me.)

I loved her idea of making a chocolate mousse box out of candy bars.

So quick, so simple. Her concept for the filling, on the other hand, gave me convulsions. But I loved the box idea.

Maybe because I grew up with Mom making castle birthday cakes with doors and moat bridges made out of large blocks of candy bars.

Whatever the reason, it certainly resonated with me.

Aha! Caught you... a closet Sandra Lee fan!! HA! But... gotta say it's a good idea smileys/smile.gif

Fan? If I watch, mesmerised by the horror of it, slack-jawed, unable to find the remote...

I'm something, but "fan" isn't quite it.

I mostly want to see what color the KitchenAid is this week, and I hold out hope that some day she might actually use the KitchenAid.

But even a broken watch is right twice a day, and the carrot cake bites were adorable. Gotta give her credit for....... presentation.

(I'll never say "Tablescape." Ever.)

Something's changed. Gourmet lately has a fascination with "body parts" photo shoots ...

Like a cocktail-party spread where there seem to be more pictures of people's legs than there are of the food. Epi "curious" indeed.

When my kids were small, I always put the frosting in the middle of cupcakes or

sheet cakes to pack for their lunches. There really is nothing new under the sun.

It helps to watch her during your very own "cocktail time". I have used some of her ideas too.

Like the tv show "House" -- if a hospital administrator REALLY dressed like that,

there'd be hearts attacks left and right.

I never miss a show... my brother in law is a dr. and LOVES it.... he tries to diagnose the mystery

illness before House does smileys/smile.gif
