This is different from what we were recent talking about. I bought some of these the other day and they're very good - I had to google the recipe and will make them myself soon. Similar to coffee cake, they have a lot of sugar in them so are very sweet.
If you receive the starter batter as a gift, do nothing. Store at room temperature in loosely covered bowl overnight. It will rise.
If making them from the start, yourself, combine:
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1 cup milk
Stir and pour 1 cup batter each into 3 containers to give to friends (along with instructions, or keep one for yourself and give away two.)
Let sit, as above, at room temperature overnight.
---
The next day, stir and add to remaining cup of batter:
2/3 cup vegetable oil
3 eggs
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
3/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup dried (and re-plumped!) cherries or cranberries
Mix by hand until smooth. Pour into well-greased and sugared lined muffin tins. Bake about 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees F (check with a toothpick at 25 minutes).
These freeze well.
