Postcards from Italy: The Olive Harvest

Last year, my friend Jen was traveling in Italy. Long story short, she met the most wonderful man and subsequently...came home, and within a matter of months, sold her business and moved to Italy. (Ain't love grand?)

Well, it turns out, her man is an olive oil maker. And this year is her first olive harvest with him & the crew.

I thought you all might like to check out her note & photos. They're quite lovely.

And without further ado, here's what Jen had to say:

Ciao Tutti!

We have oil! This week started the olive harvest for Trampetti. My

friend Joel (of Lark and Kurtwood Farms in Seattle ) and I are helping

out this year. The medium age of the pickers is about 70, with the

leader at 93 - you wouldn't believe these people - they are

incredible! Needless to say, Joel and I are doing alot of hauling...

but we are giving a good name to all you "lazy americans" out there

Traca, Thank you. So enjoyable. Have you read Carol Drinkwater's "The Olive Season," it is ..

a most enjoyable read. She has a website www.caroldrinkwater.com. I believe you can find The Olive Season in paperback now.

Gay...I haven't read "The Olive Season"...thanks for the recommendation. Those pictures have me

daydreaming about going to Italy for the harvest next year. smileys/smile.gif
