Anise Biscotti

1 cup whole almonds -- toasted

1 1/3 cup flour

1 Tb baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 stick butter -- plus

4 tablespoons butter

1 cup sugar

4 eggs

2 oz grappa

1 Tb anise seed

3/4 tablespoon anise extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine almonds, flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, cream butter, sugar and eggs together. Add grappa, anise seeds and extract. Add to dry ingredients. Mix thoroughly.

Shape dough into 3 2-inch diameter cylinders and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in oven for about 30 minutes or until rolls are a little hard. Cool for 30 minutes and slice crosswise into ¼-inch thickness and toast lightly in oven, about 20 minutes.
