Uh, uh...I am now rather worried.......................

I am so busy with this BIG show we put on...opening next week but offered a small Thanksgiving meal to family (6) of us.....now it turns out..my son-in-law is arriving Tueasday on his yacht...bring all the crew (7)....including (3) of one crew's family members...and my nieces husband is coming to surpirse her...

Fret-fret.... how many is that now??? (16) not the small gathering I thought but I so love the fact they want to all come over for this lovely celebration, I am touched ....remember this is not one we grew up with but I love the whole being thankful celebration and we have so much to be thankful for....

I can do a deboned turkey and 2 stuffed deboned lambs...

Um what else, what else....

Does the following sound right for a Thanksgiving meal? (and enough)

Urrrgh, I can barely find time to shop for it...I so hate not being in full control of entertaining.

Snacks: Chiliques (I think)

Starter: Butternut soup with garlic bread

Main: Turkey (apple calvados from saveur), Lamb (stuffed with peppers and feta), cranberry port sauce

Sides: Sweet potatoes coins with an Asian dressing

Broccoli with bacon

Green Salad with pawpaw dressing

Dessert: Pumpkin roulade, frozen pumpkin mousse

Should I do a 'dressing' the bread dish that seems to go with a turkey dinner.

This menu seems so higgledy-piggeldy with flavours but I just am so busy, I hope it is not too bad but I think I can cope with the above.

Please some one tell me....I wanted to go traditional...LOL

Joanie, you are a gallant cook and are dedicated to bringing only the best...

...to your family's table. I know how you feel, having had various planned dinners go awry, with very little resources to respond appropriately.

I say it's time to put the word out for all those fine folks to bring food to the feast. It is the (American anyway) tradition that the Indians brought food for the colonists and the colonists offered what they had on hand.

Have your guests bring plenty of appetizers so that the main meal goes further (guests are not as hungry).

Let the wine flow freely. (No one will notice anything is amiss!) Just kidding...

If that is not possible, then I say it's time to simplify the menu. Salads and desserts become simple and pre-made or (!shudder!) store-bought. Simplify wherever possible and buy extra.

Good luck!!!

Michael

Not that you really need it; but I would miss the stuffing. --my favorite part. A simple bread...

stuffing helps to fill the tummies too. Just day old bread, butter, sauteed onion, celery, herbs, and maybe some dried cranberry, nuts--I love the stuff.

My favorite part too!

(and using your recipe!!).

That and pie crust (don't need the actual filling)smileys/smile.gif

Sounds perfect to me! In fact, you could skip one of the desserts since they

are so similar - maybe make the simpler one and buy an apple pie at the bakery/store? Or recruit someone to bring one?

I didn't see mashed potatoes and gravy, traditional with us, but not always necessary. Have fun!

joanie, your menu looks great! Maybe the mashed potatoes, and if you can get fresh cranberries --

ANNE’S CRANBERRY RELISH

1 package fresh or frozen cranberries (about 2 cups)
1 cup crushed canned pineapple (drain and reserve juice)
1 cup sugar
1 cup boiling juice, from pineapple and added water
1 small or 3 oz package cherry Jello (regular or sugar-free)
2 whole navel oranges
½ cup nuts – pecans or walnuts, chopped

Grind cranberries and oranges (peel and all) and mix with other ingredients. You can put everything through a kitchenaid grinder together, or chop in a food processor separately. You want everything about the same size. Mix well.

Refrigerate or freeze until needed.

I usually double this recipe. Leftovers are delicious over vanilla ice cream!

I would miss the stuffing with just turkey, but with lamb, I think it might be out of place.

Just good bread on the table, or if this crowd loves starches, a potato dish.

Whatever you decide, the dinner will be wonderful and people will talk for years about how they all managed to get together.

If stuffing is going to add more stress, go with cloverleaf rolls...buy some good ones from a bakery

I second mashed potatoes, it's hard for me to imagine a Thanksgiving without them, but then I admit

I have an addiction.

Have fun Joanie, it sounds so divine, your guests are very lucky people.
