Update on the lobster roll

Well, I ordered my lobster roll, and I must say it wasn't worth the anticiptation! Way too blah. In fact, the only taste I had from it was when my tastebuds hit the charred (in a good way) part of the bun. It was on a New England hot dog roll and had only celery, mayonnaise, and red lobster chunks in it.

I was a little taken back, because although I've only had lobster a few times before, I don't ever remember it being red-skinned. Not worth the $15 it cost at the fancy restaurant. I liked the restaurant though - very nice and relaxing setting (it was at a spa).

I think, like most dishes with very simple ingredients, they are best enjoyed while sitting on a

wooden bench in the harbor where they were taken from the trap and cooked right in front of you.

Sorry you didn't enjoy.

I'm allergic to lobster so i have never tried it, but I'm sorry you were disappointed. smileys/frown.gif

I'm with Lisa - best enjoyed at a shack not a restaurant

the shacks tend to be much better and fresher. Also, some places do them with lobster tossed with celery and served with freshly drawn butter - this may be one thing better without mayo.

I live on Cape Cod and the standard Lobster roll at the local Church summer lunch is

the bland one described above. I would like a touch of chive or scallion but it does allow the full flavor of lobster to come through. I think lobster is best prepared simply. But, do I remember many years ago, lobster rolls ( in Maine?) which consisted of warm lobster dipped in melted butter on a toasted roll? Or did I make that up??
