the thread where you all gave your opinions on good buys in ovens? What features you like, which you would avoid, etc. Thanks!

Nothing fancy, no convection oven, no separate broiler, just a good, reliable stove/oven (I could've sworn I had this same discussion about a year ago, but I couldn't find it!).

or...it could be the Universe asking you to relax? You know...the glass half-full idea because

you threw the other half on the friggin' fire!

For a temp fix you can buy replacement burners

I've put in new burners many times.

I wish you were here 2 weekends ago when I had to call a friend to talk me down from buying a stove at a clearance sale of a high end appliance store. There it was...the stove of my dreams. On sale for an incredible price. Not just any stove -- a pro range. The Dacor. They had Viking, Thermador, etc...but the Dacor isn't quite as bulky and well I wanted it. I carried the tag around with me proclaming it to be mine for awhile. At over 50% off because a customer ordered it with all these extras but never paid for it. The money was right there in my checkbook...for the stove. What was not in there was the money to convert the kitchen to accomodate a stove (sob!) because I have a cooktop/wall oven. However...someday...when I'm able to get to that on the to-do list, I will convert over to a stove to save space and costs. And it will be that exact stove. It will.

Yeah and someday my prince will come too. So I handed the tag back and got the heck outta fantasyland. I wish you'd been there to buy it. The person who did pretty much never cooked. They had no idea what a pro range was.

PS the glass top ranges are really nice, a friend has a GE slide-in and I love cooking on it.

Yes, maybe, but steaming broccoli in the microwave tonight won't be fun

And I'll have to go buy some instant pudding to make an Oreo cake because I don't have a burner to even cook pudding ( Maybe this weekend we'll go see what the stores have got in our price range. I've wanted a glass-top for a while now anyway...

Thanks everyone, I don't think this is worth it though - fluorescent light that hasn't worked in

years came on but everything else is dead. No oven, not one burner, nothing. The lights come on, but no heat. The fire must've spooked the lights into working but killed everything else ;o)
