was indeed a treat. I had no idea, as it always seemed so expensive. Okay, the term I was looking for is High Tea.

But the scones were the best I have ever had. Ever. This hotel is world-famous for its teas, and at $90 a person, the price alone makes it memorable. This was printed on an apron.

I love a fancy proper high tea! And the Empress no less, how divine. I still have some Murchie’s tea from my last visit a lifetime ago, but we didn’t have tea there, just at a small shop in town.

I used to love the high tea at the Stanford court hotel. I’ll never forget walking around the corner, and there, next to the elevators, hung a beautiful original Maxfield Parish painting. Sadly, I think they’ve refurbished the place and ripped out the old world elegance.

And speaking of scones here are two I really need to try. The first a friend raves about how good they are

the second I’ve also heard good things about. It’s from a fairly famous localish Big Sur bakery that recently burned down 💔
