Sunday 6. So what’s on that top cabinet shelf? The one you can’t reach…

those are simply lovely! I love that the brown Betty made the cut!

I unearthed two more tea pots. Yes, I’m going to have to cull these down! One is a vintage English thatched cottage w matching sugar and creamer. And the other is vintage red art deco, w matching lidded casserole.

Random: now that there’s an Internet and you can look things up, all these bibs and bobs I’ve I’ve Thrifted, garage sailed, or flea marketed with Mom back in the 1970s and beyond, has taken on new life now that they have a backstory.

Did you know that the Coors beer company made pottery during prohibition to stay afloat? I have a yellow pitcher from them. Same logo as the beer company!

And why did people have so many pitchers? I dare say nobody uses them today, what were people putting in them?

I think people considered it rude to put something on a table in its commercial container. My mom put milk on the table in a pitcher and so did neighbours. Or anything else we were drinking at dinner or snacks. When it was really hot, we drank some prepared beverage. I confess that I am still like that. I will never put mustard, or sauce or cream or whatever on the table without dirtying another dish for it first. (even if I am eating alone) what a priss!
Well, that makes sense. One thing that kind of stumped me though, was if you placed the full pitcher on the table and filled everyone’s glass, your pitcher would be empty, but maybe that’s ideal? Or did one make two trips? One to fill glasses and then refill to place on the table for refills? Given we never had a dining room, the sink and fridge were right there, so filled glasses were placed on the table and you got up for refills.

I'm trying to figure out what type was used for what. I have a very round glass green one, like the koolaid man, which I think was meant for water, then the Coors, pale yellow one, that looks somewhat like the disc fiesta ware, which is a standard size (at first I thought people serving beer in this?), and a smaller size that is fiesta wear and expect is for juice. The novelty ones are kind of a small odd size that I think would be maybe juice, but that doesn’t seem right for what the novelty is - like the one with the cat seems like I should have milk or cream in it, but it’s too big for a creamer and two small to serve milk, so I don’t know what they were thinking.
