4 Ingredients Recipes

Hi all,

I'm thinking about adding some "4-ingredients" and "5-ingredients" recipes to my site. But I have a quandary. Having looked at many sites that offer these kind of recipes, it appears that in most cases there are WAY more than just 4 or 5 ingredients.

I thought maybe they just ignored salt, pepper, frying oil or butter, that kind of thing. But even accounting for that, there's more than the stated number of ingredients.

This puzzles me.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on what should be counted as an ingredient in such recipes smileys/smile.gif

Thank you

Nic

I'm with you, Nic. I think a 4-ingredient recipe should only have 4 ingredients,

except perhaps salt and pepper

Four or Five should mean exactly that minus S&P, cooking oil if needed...

if I went to a site expecting to see Four or Five ingredients that is what I expect to and want to see. The thought just ocurred to me that one ingredient can be used more than once. Such as parsley to cook with and to garnish, ...lemons, limes...,etc

I would say that salt, pepper, water, no-stick spray or cooking oil

for browning would not be considered ingredients. If you needed cooking oil for deep frying something, or a larger quantity of it, then it should be considered an ingredient.

I'd say minus salt and pepper and a common cooking fat such as oil or butter. Anything that's not

sitting around or that you have to go shopping for counts as a countable ingredient. Also not counted would be garnishes identified as such or ingredients marked optional.

Yup, agree.... salt, pepper, oil to fry are the only ones I wouldn't count as an ingredient.

Hmmm, right...

There are a LOT of strange things sitting around in my cupboard smileys/smile.gif I can't use that as a basis smileys/smile.gif

Thank you for the feedback

Glad to see we're pretty much all on the same page smileys/smile.gif

How about a category "Ten or Fewer Ingredients" ? I myself wouldn't really discriminate

between 4 & 5 ingredients. Make those 10 ingedients ones that would normally be found in most kitchens. You might vet the recipes with a survey group (Here would be good) to see if those ingredients you had were indeed found in most people's kitchens.

I think simply

"Recipes that Will Get You Laid" would be remarkably successful. Even more so than one offering limited ingredients. Of course, that's just me.

Steve, you and Marilyn make my sides hurt! So funny. And watcha gonna

do with that vavroom? Can't wait!

I like this

While I do want to do a bunch of 4 ingredients recipes, I very much like the idea of making recipes with "10 or fewer easy found ingredients" smileys/smile.gif

Thanks for Luisa

Yeah.... but NO!!! smileys/smile.gif

I shan't make promises that are liable to get me sued if the recipe doesn't work out with the promise made smileys/bigsmile.gif

nuthin', nuthin' at all smileys/bigsmile.gif

I will probably write a short essay about aphrodisiacs, but... smileys/smile.gif
