I have a solid 5lb block of shrimp in my freezer and am looking for ideas to thaw just part of it. I am thinking about running tepid water over a portion while trying to protect the rest from room temp and then cooking what I can pry off.
Good quality seafood at a reasonable price is fairly rare in Oklahoma. When large shrimp were on sale at a great price I asked the person at the counter if I could buy some directly from the freezer, as I always do when I buy seafood from the grocery store. He said yes, but only if you will buy 5 lbs. No problem, right? Well it wasn't IQF and I felt bad sending him back to the freezer to put it away so I bought it.
