A bad day here, and Trader Joe's to the rescue....compared with Cyn and Meryl, my bad day is not

so bad, but here it is:

Jacques and I have signed a lease to open a second shop, this one in Larchmont Village (Hollywood, sort of) beginning Sept. 1. We've been frantic, ordering merchandise, phone service etc., and booking a handyman. The current tenants, an antique store, are none too happy about having to leave; they've had below-market rent, month to month, for decades. They opted not to accept the new current rent, but didn't expect to be replaced so quickly.

They're nice enough, and when the AT&T/Yahoo DSL package that I was promised would not be sent until September arrived today the antique dealer made me a courtesy call. She wondered why I would order phone service so soon, since they won't be out until the END of September.

AAARRGHHH! I have no idea what was between them and the landlord, and our realtor promised to sort it out, so if our lease gets re-written for a month later it's not the end of the world, but if you only knew how many deliveries we have scheduled for mid-September you'd have a cow too.

When the going gets tough, I going to Trader Joes.

(Sorry Floridians and others vying for a store:)

I bought an organic chicken and some sausages, and a pork tenderloin, anticipating the new recipes in

Cook's Illustrated. I bought a few other things. Then I went to the gym to blow off steam.

I was out of steam by dinnertime-- I had a TJ's Organic Canteloupe (in the red mesh) and Stockmeyer Prosciutto, "Product of Germany," (aout six bucks) to go with it. Both were fantastic.

"Thai Shrimp Goyza" was the entree (four bucks) which takes ten minutes from freezer to plate. If I'd had a scallion and some optimism I would have minced it for a garnish, but soy sauce by itself was fine.

A perfect summer supper for stess victims.

Finally, Geatano D'Aquino Pinot Grigio, (four bucks) is so nice an a summer night. I can't really say how much I've had, but any typos are TJ's fault.

Joe, hope to rest of the move in process is smoother!

You should be able to get your landlord to reimburse you for the September DSL package since you signed a lease for a September 1 move in date.
Let the landlord also know about all the deliveries and what a pain it is to reschedule (play it up). If I were a landlord, it would be more important for me to find ways to keep my new tenant happy than to appease the tenant I am replacing! Hope your landlord feels the same way.

Joe, I had similar issues with phone company

and a move. And they never get mad at the telephone company, it's always an insidious plot that you somehow orchestrated.

Good luck. Sounds like you're going to need it.

Boy, you do know how to ende a bad day, I assume you started with the Pinot, I sure would have!

If you got your phone service early, it was a GREAT DAY!!!

Being in construction, they are the one utility that is the least controllable and the most likely to be late.

Everything else is a speed hump, not a mountain. I want to hear more details about the shop though.....

Thanks, everyone. But I'm sure it will work out, even if we have to do lots of rescheduling...

It's possible the landlord erred when he gave the tenants notice and wrote the wrong date, in which case we'll have to wait. It won't cost extra, it's just a PITA. We should know this week.

I could show up on the 1st, lease in hand, make a scene, have the locks changed, etc., but what would I do with the antiques?

Hey, Joe, I live nearby -- what is the new restaurant going to be called?

And what was the name/location of your first one?

Hi Cheezz, It's not a restaurant, we import French fabrics and table linens....

(I cater part time but I would never be up to running a restaurant!)

It will be called "Maison Provence," and it will be next door to La Luna Restaurant on Larchmont Blvd.

Our first store will probably eventually be renamed to match the new one, but it's called "Les Alpilles de Provence, meaning "The foothills (little Alps) of Provence." It sounds good in French, but it's hard for our customers to pronounce or to remember. It's on Balboa Island in Newport Beach.

Since I'm sure we'll be up and running EVENTUALLY, I hope you'll stop in!

Thanks, Marilyn. It's a stretch, but yeah, we're fortunate. The "lemonade" will continue to be

ice cold Pinot Grigio.

wishing you lots of success with your second store. they sound lovely. I hope...

the landlord straightens things out for you this week smileys/smile.gif

Joe, Congrats on opening a new store!! Wonderful News! I wish we lived closer to look at

beautiful linens/fabric that you carry.

Wishing you continued success!!

Regards,
Barb
