A brownie snob changes her mind

Okay, I love to make all kinds of brownies from scratch. I always cringe at the throught of a brownie mix. Well, the other night I was in a hurry and my son needed something for a meeting and I grabbed a box of Guiradelli (sp) double chocolate brownie mix at the drugstore. I must say they were the BOMB. I did embellish them by topping them with peppermint patties when they came out and then swirling the melted patties into a "frosting"

 
Did you just do a layer of peppermint patties on top and then bake them?

Or were they baked and then you put the patties on top?

It sounds great.
