A fall cocktail that everyone enjoyed: Spicy Bourbon Apple Punch

I don't like the taste of booze in my cocktails (making one wonder why one actually drinks a cocktail, but that's a different discussion). This means I tend to lower the booze qty and increase the sweetness and tartness factors.

For this recipe (see link for ACTUAL values), I severely cut down the bourbon and increased the sweetness and spice ingredients while using local apple cider so fresh it only lasts 2 weeks--it's not processed with heat...just UV irradiation. I also made large square ice cubes using sparkling apple cider so it wouldn't dilute the final product.

Here's what I used: made ~4 cups, which was enough for 8 highball glasses with a large square ice cube in it.

100 ml (slightly less than 1/2 C) of Wild Turkey bourbon

2.5 C fresh apple cider

2/3 C fresh orange juice

1/2 C maple syrup

1.5 TBL apple cider vinegar

several dashes of Angostura bitters

healthy dribble of Grand Marnier liquor.

I didn't add the cayenne pepper from the original recipe as I thought one guest said she hated pepper. Turns out she only hates black pepper so I have no opinion on that ingredient.

I have silicon ice cube forms and used sparkling apple cider for those. Froze them the night before and they worked out very well. Added the sliced fresh apple slices just because they look so sweet.

I made a guessing game out of the "odd" ingredient and when no one guessed apple cider vinegar, I told them this drink could not only give them a buzz, but might cure a tricky urinary track infection.

Obviously, it was an "all girls" night out.
