A friend is going to Barcelona, Spain in July. Is there a spice, condiment, or anything food

related, that I might ask her to pick up for me? Something little, that will not cause an issue with the airlines? Not a seasoned person who travels outside the US, but know many of you do.

Most definitely saffron. It is so cheap there. But also, their paprika is better than what we see on

this side of the world.

If she wants a restaurant to visit, there is a Tapas that I have been to a few times, have recommended to friends, who then love it so much that they return a couple of times during the trip.

I brought back saffron and

Pimenton Dela Vera, which is smoked hot paprika. I also got some Sal Fuego which is sea salt with added hot red pepper. All are wonderful.

Roasted piquillo peppers, sherry vinegar, hot chocolate bars, orange marmalade

Piment de espelette, tinned seafood-tuna, octopus, eels, sardines, mussels.

I have just copied here, part of what I wrote for my friends:

About our Barcelona:

1. Tapas restaurant - we have recommended this to other folks and they made a point of going twice in the same trip. Best to go at about 8 in the evening. Be sure to try their ‘shrimp’...they are so sweet. Great wines and endless tapas. Fabulous.

Restaurant Cuidad Condal
Rbla Catalunya, 18 TEL: 933-181997
District: EIXAMPLE Corner of Catalunya & Gran Via del Les Corts Catalanes

If you happen to be staying at the Ritz Hotel, (lovely hotel), it is only a block away.

2. There is another restaurant, rated as one of the 2 highest in the city. We went; would not go again...Neichel.

Can you tell I had a close friend who lived outside of Madrid for years?

She really turned me on to Spanish food. I have spent a lot of money at tienda.com and Cafe Madrid in Dallas.
