Aw Bubba, now dry those tears and do tell---where did the term "the swamp" come from? I was a newbie

over at Gail's before coming here.

 
We've lost so many regulars from the "swamp", everyone's thrilled when one returns.

Especially one we've all liked so much!

 
I could be wrong, but I first encountered 'that name' in the chat on epi. It referred to...

...Gail's 'Swap', as the 'Swamp'.

Many regular chatters had a low opinion of the Swap due to the fights and flaming that sometimes went on. Others had their personal reasons to dislike one thing or another, and it became routine to see the Swap referred to that way.
