A question about chocolate

Ok, now that I have your attention (!) I am wondering about the health benefits of chocolate... I know it's recommended to have the cocoa content at least 70% cocoa mass but what percentage do you think its benefits outweigh the bad? I think about this every time I go through the check-out lines and see all the labels saying what percentage cocoa they contain!

If it was up to me, I'd eat only milk chocolate... however, I know the sugar, fat, and calories would do me absolutely no good except to put a smile on my face. I guess what I'm saying is if 60% isn't any better than milk, I'll stick with milk chocolate at 35%! Any thoughts on what the minimum cocoa percentage should be as to outweigh the bad effects?

My aunt used to eat all sorts of chocolate and even convinced herself that milk chocolate was good for you - they had Dove chocolates in bowls at her memorial service - and she lived to be in her mid-90's!

My Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor told me to have 70 percent of higher,

for the antioxidants and flavinoid compounds, an ounce a day. She said that chemically there were hundreds of compounds in cacao that no one has been able to reproduce yet. I'm not supposed to eat dairy but crave it and if I follow her recomendation I don't get that craving, she says it's my body craving the fat, not the dairy, and the cocoa solids are a better fat. Now I have less migraines and am recovering from adrenal fatigue and exhaustion. I'm sure it is not all due to chocolate but there you are.... Isn't that interesting? I am not one of those people who crave a chocolate dessert or dessert even, except for ice cream, so "forcing" myself to eat chocolate has been interesting. I would prefer a lemon or caramel dessert over chocolate!

After a year or so of this I eat more in the 85-100% cacao range and when I have 65 or 70% cacao it seems so sweet! Haven't had milk chocolate in ages, it doesn't appeal. So funny how the taste buds work.

I wish I'd lose my taste for milk chocolate, although like you, I don't really crave

chocolate of any kind, just other sweet things.
