A small tribute to the Rio Olympics....

Lovely recipes Sally. thanks so much. We, too, have been following the Rio games

and some of the scenery has been spectacular. What a beautiful country. My maternal grandparents came to the US from Funchal, in the Azor Islands. There is beautiful country over there, as well.

I watched your little video when you were talking to your beloved fur kid about his muddy feet and caught your Brazilian accent...very charming.

Yes Biles rocks and Katie Ledecky is a beast....and I can't leave

out Phelps. I'm so tired and I'm promising myself I'm gonna catch up on sleep next week. Track and field is not my strong suit. I am putting that shrimp dish on the top of the list to make and printing out almost all of the others. Thanks for putting such a great list of dishes together for us.

Phelps is simply unreal! agree! (more)

Ledecky's Gold medal yesterday was something hard to believe! I could never imagine such a huge lead by a swimmer!

I watch the games with a box of Kleenex by my side - good thing Phil gets pretty emotional too... smileys/wink.gif

You don't care for track and field, but maybe you heard that the Ethiopian, Almaz Ayana smashed the world record, running ahead of the pack pretty much for the whole race!

come to think of it, I did 10km this morning, but WILL NEVER divulge how long it took me smileys/wink.gif

Thank you! (more)

accent is the type of stuff that you don't like the one you have. NEVER.

but cannot do anything about that.

Cannot believe just a few more days and the event is over, another 4 years waiting

Here's the difference between you and me...

You actually did a 10k....I have never done that in my life! LOL My hat's off to you girl. All these kids are amazing and I love all their stories. I'm trying to keep on top of the refugee team. Boy, what a story for them. And the tissue came out last night for the gold medal win for Maya Dirado. That was pure joy on her face. ~~sniff~~

I can attest the Shrimp Moqueca is delicious! I made the recipe that Sally posted before, it calls

for fire-roasted tomatoes, if I remember correctly. Really good.

I am drawn to folks with accents, have been all my life. find them charming and sexy

so be proud, because I am not the only one who feels that way. Love accents!!!

Maybe so... BUT

you don't have to go through the reaction of your husband when you tell him you are baking a sheet cake and he goes

a WHAT????? (insert uncontrollable laughter here)

I may use the fire roasted tomatoes. The canned yellow tomatoes I got from

Visconte are grainy and I am not fond of them. One can had ONE tomato, with a bunch of grainy juice.

Sally, love the menu...

and I can't wait to try it. I'm also adding those cheese buns to my Asado this weekend along with other selections of homebaked breads.

But a question. I just tried a sample packet of loose leaf mate from a US supplier. It was awful. Compared to the packet I brought back from Buenos Aires, it is pale yellow, bitter and medicinal smelling, and quite bitter and nasty when brewed. That compared to the green, herbally, sweet barn hay smell of the Argentina package. I couldn't even finish the first gourd.

Do you have a brand and/or source you use in the US for good mate? From Jet.com I found Eco from Argentina ($11.39/pound) and another from Brazil, Guayanki from San Mateo area for $12.99. (and no shipping!). Do you know either of these or suggest another?

TIA!

I always buy MATE LEAO

with the nasal sound in A

that is the most traditional brand in Brazil - maybe there are others now, but this is the one I grew up with
