A very delicious vanilla cake layer cake recipe

I made this cake this morning and it was scrumptious. I did do these things differently:

I started off by creaming the butter with the sugar which is NOT how the recipe directs. It just made more sense to me. Then added the egg white, the dry ingredients and the oil and buttermilk.

Also - I added one yolk to the egg whites. The cake was still quite white.

This will be my new go-to white cake recipe

Deb did you make the icing as well? 3 cups of butter!

No doubt it was delicious.

I didn't use the buttercream recipe

I had some swiss meringue buttercream left from another cake.

However, if I'm going to use an American Buttercream I use these dimensions:
1 lb. unsalted butter
1 2# package of powdered sugar
heavy whipping cream to achieve consistency I'm after.
