If I could write this story like Marilyn you really would laugh with me....now you can laugh AT me!!! smileys/smile.gif

A good friend of ours has us every year but it's a long drive out of town. The few left in our family either work or go out of town to their in-laws. Last Thanksgiving our friend was getting ready to go on a 6 mo. trip to Alaska and told me to make sure we back again this year.

nothing was said the rest of the year and I had in my mind that Thanksgiving is always the last week in November. With me being over half a century old you'd think I'd know by know it's the last Thursday the last whole week in November.

November arrives and I told my friend I'd rather stay home with just the 2 of us this year and not have the long drive....for them to come here Christmas to share their travel pictures and birthdays, etc.

Thinking that Thanksgiving is next week, I went to the store Monday with a proud smile on my face that I was going to get my shopping done early so I wouldn't have to face the mad rush. I was disappointed that there were already a lot of people at the store rushing around as though it were Thanksgiving already!

I didn't find out til late yesterday afternoon that Thanksgiving is tomorrow. smileys/smile.gif No calendar I have had Thanksgiving printed on it for some reason....can I blame the calendar?

So today I'm trying to make some kind of dinner that would resemble in some small way a Thanksgiving dinner that most of us identify with.

I decided on the Roasted Turkey Breast with Spiced Cranberry Glaze. I just came from the kitchen and I will have a Turkey Breast with Spiced Cranberry Infusion....smileys/smile.gif I forgot to cook it after I blended it...I put it in a vacuum seal bag so it definitely will be infused.

My husband retired 3 mos ago and has commented it's hard to keep the days straight...I told him last night it's hard for me to remember when the holidays are! smileys/smile.gif

Now I don't feel so bad....

I've let time slip on me the last week or so. I had a big construction project at work that officially opened on the 12th and I've been trying to get others wrapped up. Then going to school on Wednesday nights and helping the school tape a cooking show every other Tuesday night. Teenage daughter running me around and wearing me out. Getting ready to be out the better part of a week for some minor outpatient surgery. DH cousin found in coma and organs are shutting down so it's just a matter of time before we get that call. Just too much going on to remember to buy a turkey.

So here it is Wednesday and I still haven't purchased a turkey and I know I can't do my normal T&T turkey because it takes days to thaw, 24 hours to brine & marinate, at least overnight to dry the skin. I gave in and called a Chef friend that fries up HUNDREDS of turkeys and asked if he had an extra so I am going over there shortly to pick it up. I think I have some cranberries I threw in the freezer and if not, I made some green tomato chutney last weekend - wonder how that would go with Cajun deep fried turkey? I might have a pie shell and some canned pumpkin but I know I have some sweet potatoes and butternut squash (it all tastes the same). This might be an interesting Thanksgiving meal.

I'll do my traditional turkey for Christmas.

Missy, and everyone else...have a good Thanksgiving.

I'm sorry to hear about your family health problems. Hoping things will work out with a minimum of pain and suffering on anyone's part.
I think the green tomato chutney will be perfect with that Cajun deep-fried turkey. Don't those southern things just have affinity for one another?
As for the pumpkin/sweet potato/squash pie, you are right. They all can sub for one another just fine.
Dinner will work out. Try to relax and enjoy.

Awww....Marsha..LOL

You are so funny! Why don't you drive up to SW Missouri and have dinner with us? If you leave now you'll make it.

Because my middle DD is going to KS with her fiance @ her future in-law's house we won't eat until 4:30 pm tomorrow. Kinda late but we decided having the family together was worth the wait.

I can't say our meal will be health concious but it will be traditional and yummy. smileys/smile.gif I have 3 pumpkin pies in right now. Just took my 2 pecan delite pies out of the oven. Made the Cabernet Cranberries earlier..yum. (scraped the pan) ha

Come on down...!!! OH, gulp! Guess it's COME ON UP!

What fun that would be! smileys/smile.gif

Have a blessed Thanksgiving, my friend. smileys/smile.gif

Marsha, don't feel bad...

I thought the same thing until I was telling the PTO president that Thanksgiving was in two weeks. She said, hmmmm, let me look at a calendar. No, Dawn, Thanksgiving is next week. (this was a week ago). I just know she hung up and thought, what a Californian. You and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day.

Marsha, you earned a well-deserved T-Day!

And keep your eyes open...the Easter Bunny will be delivering your Pumpkin pies.
