A "wishy washy" day here in Miami...so we eat!!!

Can't decide which one to make...

I was planning to make Cathy Z's German Pancake (which I served over the holidays) tomorrow but this one looks very tempting too. Thanks! Ann

hmmm......

I googled, and searched your;"Cathy Z's German Pancake," but I could not find it...so I can't advise you either way...all I can say is, it was very tasty...in pretty simple, oh, I also added some crumbled walnuts in the batter, I really love when the nuts are roasted...even in ordinary dinner salad, it makes everything more special, and the kitchen smells inviting.

Too funny, looks like Ruth and I are posting at the same time! Anyway, you will enjoy the recipe!

It is a keeper!

Thanks for posting Cutie! I went straight to the kitchen to make this!

I'm not sure if it was my timing, but mine did not puff like the one on the blog. Here's my sequence:

-Turn on the oven
-Start heating the cast iron frying pan on the stove
-Gather the ingredients, mix the batter
-Melt the butter in the frying pan
-Decide to wait for the oven to come to temp
-Turn off the stove, let the butter sit in there
-Wait 5 minutes for oven
-Turn stove back on, just to heat the pan again
-Pour in the batter
-Place in oven.

Okay, so it didn't look like the first picture, but it definitely looked like the second picture smileys/smile.gif

My son and I shared the whole thing, and loved it. The best part was the crispy browned parts on the side. And the lemon-powdered sugar thing was wonderful - I've seen that used on crepes, but never tried it before.

Definitely a keeper - thanks!

p.s. Miss your mom too. Glad you're here -sounds like you've got her joie de vivre smileys/smile.gif

There's a restaurant down the hill from me that specializes in this... people come from miles!

HA! You're going to just die, but it's Dinah's (as in Dinah's fried chicken) - an old dive

One of those places where the waitresses are almost older than the building... everything is tired and greasy (like IHOP), but apparently their Dutch Baby pancake is a real draw. Guess everyone has at least one great dish.

My girlfriend used to work there... it's about 15 min. from me. Great sandwiches and deli food

It's one of those good New York Jewish deli-type places that practically TELLS you to clean your plate or they won't let you have dessert. smileys/smile.gif

Thanks cheezz. I've been dying to try it. I mistakenly thought it was on Culver and Sepulveda,

spent a half hour at that intersection looking for it. I've listened more carefully to the ads since and now I know where to look.

We LOVE Dinah's! I used to work near there, and we frequently visit

when picking up or droppping off visitors at LAX.

I haven't tried the pancake - we always get the famous fried chicken.

It's kind of tricky to find if you are not familiar with the neighborhood -

Sepulveda bears left, and you need to be in the right hand lane to take the Jefferson split.

I ate there years go - the sandwiches are huge, lots of meat, served of course with yummy dill pickles.

Maybe we can all meet there or at Dinah's for lunch some weekend?
