A wonderful weekend of eating.

We went to a friend's house for a potluck and had such a wonderful dinner. Everyone brought salads that were so gorgeous. There was a beet salad that was soooo good. Two kinds of potato salad. A green leaf salad with egg whites and grapes. Millet wedges with a raspberry sauce (fantastic--it was the first time I'd tried millet). Tortilla soup. Grilled sausages with red peppers and onions.

Drinks were a wine cooler mix with strawberries, lime-infused water, green tea with mint and agave, and red zinger tea.

Dessert was homemade ice creams and sorbets: blackberry and lavender, strawberry and mango, and toasted almond caramel ice cream. A couple of other flavors, too. And a strawberry-rhubarb crisp.

I really, really need to learn to cook like this. It all felt so healthful. Really wish I had all the recipes...

Then we sat outside on the lawn and sang folk songs for an hour or so.

The kids were running around playing, the cat was stretched out on a blanket, purring, we were surrounded by Jane's flower garden. Such a lovely evening.

It all sounds wonderful, but I am not familiar with eggs whites in a salad

Were they cooked ? In the dressing or just floating around in the salad?

Oh, I get it. For some reason when I read egg whites, I envisioned those egg whites that come in a

waxed container...I had to buy those for our grandson when he was living here and trying to loose weight to get into the Navy, Did not even think of the hard boiled eggs.
