Aarrgghhh - can't make cookies because of dead batteries!!!

I pored through the recipes to pick the ones I'd make this year. I went through the ingredient list tallying how many cups of flour, sugar, etc I'd need to ensure I wouldn't have to countless trips to the grocery store. I went grocery shopping last night - almost a whole cart of baking supplies and very little everyday food. Brought everything out this morning and its all lined up on the counter. Brought out all the tools needed - measuring cups, mixer, scale. Wait. The scale isn't working. Arrggghh the batteries are dead. I've become so dependent on the scale. So - here I am running out to pick up batteries - since they use those funky watch type batteries and not something normal like AAA or AA of which I have tons of. Sigh.

Here's a temporary fix that's worked for me a couple of times.

My scale batteries ran out during a crucial kitchen session (of course, right when I needed it most) and I took them out of the scale and wiped them clean of any residue. Then I reinstalled them. It worked for a week or so, and then I had to get new ones. But it got me through the session where they first failed, and I didn't have to stop what I was doing and get new ones that minute.

waiting for your email, oh you lucky one!

While I am a firm practitioner of using the scale...

in my baking, you reference buying how many cups you needed and getting the measuring cups out to start...did you just start and do it the old fashioned way and use the cups to measure?

Richard, do you have a conversion chart for the liquids? I know water vs. molasses would weigh much

different.

Speaking of liquid measuring cups...I put a new one in the dishwasher and it cleaned everything extremely well. Took those stubborn red graduated red lines right off!!!

Last time I send Someone to pick up a measuring cup and he stops at the Dollar Store.

I have to back up Tess on this one. If I had a bunch of cookies to prepare, I'd make

the run for the batteries and enjoy the thrill of putting a bowl on the scale and dumping in flour. So much quicker and consistent than measuring out cup per cup.
