About the "pie in a jar" posts above, I emailed Fresh Preserving

Well-known member
who makes Ball jars about this and got an email today saying that they do NOT recommend baking in their jars.

So I will donate....

Ball is kinda like the pharmaceutical companies; they are not going to recommend "off label" . . .

uses.

Canning jars are supposed to be heat/freeze treated, but what Ball is worried about is thermal shock, like when you put a room temperature (jar with pie stuff in it) into a 350º+ oven.

Chances are that they are not going to crack, and if any did crack/break, the others would be ok.

Would it be possible to freeze the little pies in these jars, then

pop them out and bake them on a cookie sheet? I'm intrigued with the idea of tiny pies. Or make them in extra large size muffin pans?
