Adopting a Soldier ?

Hello and happy Fall. I have a group that wants to adopt a soldier to write to, to send cards and possibly care packages. But we don't know how to find a soldier or a site that can help us. There seem to be several sites that are not "official" and I just don't know who or what to trust. Do you have any information on this subject?

Thanks for any information.

I tried to find someone on the swap who had a relative and all over town here-- as it turned out

this group that was provided to my group here is excellent.
You get the name of someone in the unit, the number of people. Also number of men and women, things they are really missing.

My contact guy is now home but they keep passing my name along. Was very cool, this group had seven women and they were so happy for some lotions, etc.
And noticed one person posted, "please no first aid supplies, we are a medical unit".
Also including a list of what is desired. I got raves for Sriracha hot sauce.
Each person picks a name, we send packages in the fall and spring since the holidays they get lots.
I also send something midsummer.
Thanks for doing this!!!
Nan

I highly recommend the site www.anysoldier.com

At this website, soldiers must request to be listed and then they usually give a list of things they need or would like. One soldier usually speaks for a unit, but some of the units are very small. All branches of the service participate... Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. You can even choose to support a soldier/unit from a specific state and other specific criteria. I have no connection to this website. And while I don't have any personal contacts among the soldiers, I have chosen and supported soldiers from the site several times.

I have also sent care packages to our military hospitals. I address them to the Chaplain's Office, and ask that the gifts be given to any soldier they feel needs just a little extra kindness, or those who are separated from their families during the holidays. The gifts are unwrapped or placed in a holiday gift bag so the Chaplain can approve the items and deliver them based on need.
