I really want one of these aerogardens,http://www.officialaerogarden.com/default.aspxadid=ggl1002.1&gclid=CJnAsvjNspACFTyKOAodkgWUMw, but they are $179.00. I spoke with a herb gardener friend of mine, and we think there is a way to design one, probably not as attractive, but more kinder to the pocketbook.

Anyone have any ideas?

There's a whole thread on this at egullet. One of the posters built his own. Here's part of his post

"I don't have any pics of the building process of my garden, but here is the web site i used as guide."

"I didn't make it exactly like that, but used the general idea from it and made some improvements, like glass box, a pair of halogen lights on top of it, a water heater, and a water treatment unit.
The project cost was like 80 bucks but i already had many of the parts at home.
I don't recommend the idea of building your own garden if you don't even know how to use a drill, some skills are needed..."

I don't think it would be hard. Talk to a hydroponics shop or department

at a large hardware/garden store. they should be able to set you up. Then all you need are the grow lights.
