After all my ranting about shipping costs (and yours too) I feel compelled to own up to what just

happened.

Yesterday, I ordered some tapers/candles online. A heavy box at 11 pounds. (yes, for all the entertaining I do) The US site led me directly to a window for Canadians, just by noting my email address. So I could use all the CDN bits for dropdown windows that don't work on US sites. How lovely that more companies are doing this.

The shipping cost was readily available with no monkey business. I paid all of $14 for this load and could have added another 5 pounds (I tested it).

Then later in the day, I went back to the site that so badly ripped me off before and to which I will soon be articulating my complaint, and ordered more of what I had ordered before, on sale. The difference between this order and the previous order of the same article was as though a big refreshing wind had blown through the shipping calculation department. It is about 15% of what the previous order cost. So now I really do believe that the other may have been a big mistake or was handled by yet another someone who don't know nothin'.

I think we must be ever vigilant about the little decisions that incompetants are making all around us and how they affect us. I agree with Richard that we need to let companies know when there is a screw-up. They usually do want to know.

And when something does go well, I think it equally important to make note of the positives. Maybe improvement is around the corner.

There is free software that will hide your Cdn IP address...

it is called Anchor Free and when you open an internet connection using it, it will give you a US IP address, so they can't block out the US site.

The only other hiccup I've found are a couple of online stores who, even though I have registered my CC with a US billing address, will not accept CC's issued by Cdn banks. Sephora is one store, a dept store in Florida is another. Drugstore.com just stopped accepting int'l orders as well. I think its a conspiracy, especially with Sephora. One customer service rep I was ranting to let it slip that there are 'business agreements' that force Cdn customers to go through the Cdn online store. The diference in pricing is criminal.
