After two ER visits and 4 doctors this week, I've learned something about gluten-free

Yes, I managed to make this into a food-related post smileys/smile.gif

It seems, if you eat mostly, or soley GF, that you could be very deficient in vitamin B2 (riboflavin) and magnesium. Apparently wheat flour is boosted with these but not the GF flours.

I'm to take 400mg daily supplements of each one in hopes of preventing further complex migraines.

Just FYI

Oh no! Migraines are so miserable. How scary.

The magnesium can cause heart arrythmias too.

I have wondered about the B vitamins because I eat so little bread, commercial cereal or enriched flour items. one of the downsides of being a bread snob. I don't have time to make it often or easy acess to good bakery bread where I live/work.

Sorry you had to learn it the hard way, Jane.

I have a couple GF friends here that educated me about B2 and Magnesium. Sorry you are having the awful migraines! I hope the supplements bring you back into balance.

Thanks for posting cheezz, hope you are feeling much better. I have

had a couple of people say to me they don't do gluten. It is self-imposed on their part....and I wonder if they could have issues down the road...

cheezz, please also check out eye strain. That was the cause of my migraines until

I figured out the pattern. Haven't had one since as I am now very aware of the ensuing result.

Oh My! Glad you are feeling better.... I feel badly, as I know going GF must have

been difficult, and was done for health reasons.... What a bummer to have Migraines!! Thanks so much for sharing your experience, as I have a number of friends thinking this is their nutritional path.

I am glad you are feeling better...

Best,
Barb

Thanks all! We've been going (mostly) GF about 2 years and it never occured we could be deficient

in something! The worst part is, it happened just before I was set to leave on a cruise last Monday so I had to cancel smileys/frown.gif I spent 3 months staying away from crowds, sick people, flu, etc., then this hits.

My heart is strong, but I will certainly be on the lookout for any odd symptoms.

I go to the optometrist regularly every year, but I will be talking this over with them for sure.

Just curious, is "gluten free" a choice or a medical necessity as for celiac disease.

DD did it for a while, and dairy also, etc. Just curious, as I say. ;o)

For celiacs it's a medical necessity. I'm not celiac, I just avoid wheat because

it aggravates my arthritis and causes inflammation in my hubby who has a heart condition.

Oh No! Missing a cruise! Now you really have me... It must have been a really bad incident.

So sorry for you, and hope you are feeling better now.... Also hope you had trip insurance and can reschedule soon!
