Amsterdam Style Deep dish Apple Pie from Food Nouveau.com - sounds delicious!

Wow - 5 cups of flour. Like a really apple-y cake!

Thank-you for sharing! The filling looks a bit dry for my tastes but I think I know how to fix that by adding "softer" apples to the mix. Colleen

Make your own Speculaaskruiden (Dutch Spice Mix) included in link

Wonder if a bit of Grains of Paridise would make this mixture even more wonderful. Or if, with the white pepper, it's similar already. Colleen

Can any one give advice about the recipe at the link above: I don't own a food processor . . .

I don't own a food processor and need some advice about mixing the "pastry" together. The pastry looks more like cookie dough to me, with the self-rising flour. So, how should I mix--with and electric beater or what?

My thought is that since it looks like a cookie dough, I should cream the butter with the sugar and salt then beat in the eggs and finish by mixing in the flour. What do you think?
Thank you,

I think you can just follow the instructions using a mixer--as you

have said. It isn't a flaky crust for sure!! ;o)

Someone asked the site's creator yr same question! Here is her reply--all copied & pasted==>

One quick quest – is there a way to make the pastry without a food processor?

You can use a hand or a stand mixer. The dough may be too dense to use the mixer to incorporate all of the flour, so if you feel your mixer’s having a hard time, finish kneading the dough by hand until all of the flour is incorporated. Good luck!
