I had taken photos of all the entries before the display opened (and before there were names, labels, or ribbons) and completely skipped over this one. I actually thought it was part of the purchased display decorations for the viewing area. (To my defense in thinking this was a manufactured item: I have a small plastic ice floe with a plastic penguin (IDENTICAL to these) and polar bear sitting on the rim of our bathtub. What can I say....I amuse easily.)
The ice walls are made of styrofoam covered with icing sitting on a 3' x 3' base.
DH protested in my defense: "I thought this was a Gingerbread House competition? Where's the house? I don't see a gingerbread house. I don't even see any gingerbread!"
Unlike the National GBH competition judging criteria:
1. Overall Appearance
2. Originality/Creativity
3. Difficulty
4. Precision
5. Consistency of theme,
there were no rules on how our entries would be judged. Rotary winner won $1000.

Personally, I think it's adorable. But, as Larry noted, there wasn't a single piece of gingerbread evident....just fondant and icing.
