And now, back to fun stuff - tonight's dinner: Lazy Woman's California Roll Sushi

It was so delicious! Thank you Sandi in Hawaii and Dawn_Mo for posting and writing about it.

King crab was on special at the market so I bought 2 legs which was plenty for my tart pan. I did not use mayo as I felt the avocados were creamy enough. At a total cost of $17 I'm thinking this is a wonderful and cheap way to have really good sushi and I feel so lucky to have access to great ingredients. Sorry the picture is a little blurry, all the red is tobiko - I love tobiko!

Can we put this in T&T yet? smileys/smile.gif

I am glad you liked it Heather! I just love it and have made it

several different ways. I definitely think Sandi needs to put it in T&T.

Yes, crunchy and sweet, and a bit salty. They are the roe of the flying fish.

My other favorite at the sushi bar is the roe of the herring, it's crunchy and yellow and stays in a solid piece and they usually slice it with a piece of the fish.

Considering how much I dislike salmon roe it's funny how much I like these! Salmon is to me "Balls of Fire" indelibly in my brain.... And then of course there are the descriptions by Rex Stout of Nero Wolf's wonderful meals with sauteed shad roe, which sadly I've never had or seen anywhere... Has anyone had it, is it soft like caviar or crunchy or ??? I'm almost afraid to know.

Luisa, I've seen it at Nijiya in Japantown in SF and Ranch 99 in Daly City.

Not sure if there's a Ranch 99 near Vacaville?

I've never heard of Ranch 99. Maybe it's just in the Bay Area. Is there one in Marin? I have a sis

there who gets me stuff from Whole Foods when I can't find it elsewhere.

I found Tobiko in Chico up north here...in an Oriental shop...

in their freezer case along with sashimi grade ahi and, would you believe it...Unagi!! Errr...fresh-water eel. I was astounded!
