Ang brought up sausage... Here's my story, what are your thoughts.....

FIL and MIL drove quite a distance to purchase authentic Hungarian sausages for our family. Blood sausage, hortka, I don't even know all the words. They were made from a family owned business. Tasted amazing!

I am happy that we continue to introduce our children to hungarian food and happy with how they respond and appreciate different flavors.

Here's my dilemma, when I cooked the blood sausage, I FORTUNATELY, found a huge staple that was used to separate the sausage links. It was a massive staple.

Our children are at the age, where I say "wa la" and help your self. (You get it)... In other words, I am not cutting up their food in small pieces, we just put it out, and help our selves.

I am so glad that I found the staple. It could have been a really bad evening.....

This was purchased from a hungarian run butcher shop, vs. a family friend.

Happened to anyone? Are Staples common place in homemade sausage?

No, not common in home-made *anything* that I know of. . .

I would let the sausage company know!!!

I have seen large staples used to separate casings and stuff, but they should NOT be in the sausage itself.

Yes, let the sausage makers know--and do it by mail, not just e-mail or by phone. Not that you want to sue them or anything, but a snail-mail letter does seem to make people sit up and take notice. You might want to call and tell them you will be following up with a letter.

I think this is what was used to separate the sausages

" found a huge staple that was used to separate the sausage links. It was a massive staple. "

And yes, it is used in many sausages, IME

I found those kind of staples in fresh chorizo. I was wondering why the heck they did that.

I've only ever seen, used the spinning method with real casing to seal each link. Maybe normal casing doesn't work blood sausage?

Could also be used to join to casing ends together. In doing a bit of research, I found a patent

for a staple mechanism for tying off sausage ends.

Still, it sounds odd for a fresh sausage to have a metal staple. Did you call the shop and ask them about it?

They really don't speak english well. And I do not speak Hungarian well. Although I could say in

perfect hungarian that I love them and miss them : )

(From my conversations with our relatives in Hungary)
