Ang, I was talking to one of my friend's daughters and we were talking about her mom's garden.

I am supposed to help myself to any of the produce that is growning now because they can't keep up with it. I was asking her what was in it and she told me cukes, zukes, tomatoes, and sweet peas. I asked her what kind of sweet peas and she described sugar snap peas. It turns out that the last time she ate them, she had a funny reaction in her throat, a closing feeling. I remembered your reaction to raw sugar snap peas and told her not to eat anymore of them under any circumstances, and about how you ended up in the ER for an allergic reaction to them.

What are some of the other things you are allergic to? I want to warn her to be careful of the them too. Thanks for sharing that post with us. Who knows what might have happened if she continued to eat those raw snap peas.

oh boy, what a nasty flashback I just had. She should stay away from them RAW. her next reaction

may most likely be worse. It's Raw fruits/veggies with peels on---like apples and nectarines and I got a bit itchy after eating some cherries. I believe the allergist said that the peas had an enzyme that does this, and it's related to apples too(my hands itch when I peel apples). She should be able to stir fry them----but well done! This is a late in life allergy for me---I have eaten all those things all my life, well except for pea pods which didn't exist in my German American childhood kitchen. She should be vigilant about looking for the early signs---like those she told you about---that "closing feeling" and itching in the hands and throat and ears and flushing of skin, maybe a few hives and lips/eyes swelling. I haven't had any problem with cukes or zukes or tomatoes.

Thanks Ang. I sent on the information to my friend.

I remembered you had a very bad reaction to the raw peas, so when she mentioned that she had that closing feeling the last time she ate them, all the buzzers and bells went off. Thanks for the info.
