Another sigh, my pal cancelled her visit, now I have all of this food - what to do??

I'm having a major pity party here...

Sadly Laura's dear dog King got sick, my buddy!! He's doing a little better today but they still don't know what's wrong. smileys/frown.gif So she's sad about him and about missing to come and play with me, and I'm sad about King-dog and missing her. uck! I have been doing prep cooking for days for her visit and now I have tons of food - what on earth am I going to do with everything?

I have:

- Susan/Kentfield's Mustard Glazed Corned Beef

- ingredients for Susan/Kentfield's Peppery Sauteed Cabbage and Noodles

- Baby Carrots braised in CB broth

- Guinness Braised London Broil Stew

- White Bean salad in Lemon Vinagrette

- a zillion eggs

- Egg salad for sandwiches

- 5 avocados for huevos rancheros and also for blood orange and avocado herb salad

- ingredients for Pat's Fusilli with Burrata and Spinach

- Cranberry Orange Scones

- ingredients for Fresh Pea Consomme with Mint from Wine and food

Thank goodness I didn't make the Guinness Chocolate Cupcakes or Meryl's creamy chocolate pudding yet. I was also going to bake CuicinaNicolina's maple white bread.

Laura is a real hearty eater and likes 3 meals a day with dessert-after-breakfast and a chocolate snack each day. And, she's stick thin! there's no way I can consume all of this and my freezer is pretty full.

The focus of her visit was for us to go to the SF International Chocolate Salon on Saturday. So far none of my friends can go so I guess I'll just sell my ticket outside and eat chocolate alone!

Waaaa, snuffle snuffle.

If anyone wants to come by for dinner or a doggie bag please let me know!

Here's King, my Route 66 pal, snoozing in his LA loft after our long trip last year - please think good doggie thoughts for him and his recovery - he's a black lab/chow mix - wonderful guy!

If not, you can freeze a few of the items in various portions you might use in the future, the stew

and scones for sure...possibly the corned beef too.

She's in Santa Fe!! But she just called, so far the tests are

coming back okay and she'll know more soon. But something fun just happened, her husband felt so bad about her canceled trip that he's offered to fly me out next month to SFe for a visit using his miles. Jay rocks!

But back to the piles of plenty here - yes, I'm going to make myself TV dinner style packages (thank heavens for freezer zippy bags and press-n-seal wrap. I need to post on Craigslist a need for one of those Japanese train pushers to help me pack the freezer - LOL....

ooo, I'm feeling happier now, she's looking into a tamale class at the SFe Culinary School...

Always wanted to make those! Especially reading the recipe Pat posted at 14063 - mmmm

Susan in Kentfield suggested corned beef hash so that's Sunday breakfast. Something to look forward too, no? smileys/bigsmile.gif

A party would be fun, I haven't had one since I was with my ex. Sadly (for me) my SF friends have decided to go vegan for Lent, most everyone else has moved out of town or already have Friday/weekend plans. Funny to live in a major city and suddenly feel all alone - know what I mean?

Dang Heather! Wish I could come down. You've got one heck of a spread there!

I say it's time to make some new friends on Twitter and see who wants to come to the Chocolate Festival. Someone on Twitter popped me a note about an event tonight...I went...and had a fantastic time. Met a guy I've been needing to meet for-ever! I'm just saying...reaching out can have some surprising rewards. Hmm...just thinking...that's how we "met". It's a good thing. smileys/wink.gif

Okay Traca, I did find a friend for Choclate and Twittered about the food- asked if anyone is hungry

hmmmm. We'll see what happens!

If anyone on here is on twitter, I'm @HeatherHAL

What is twitter? It is getting lots of attention in the media...ie we were twittered, etc. How is

it different from facebook or myspace?

TIA,
Barb

I'll let you know where we went. But there are 2 chocolate shops you must visit. I mean really must

Kakawa and Chocolatesmith.

I'll find their addresses and post them or DM you. The chocolate elixirs at Kakawa are so amazing, all of their chocolates are dark chocolate and the guy who owns it calls himself a chocolate historian. He uses ancient recipes he's researched from MesoAmerica, early Europe and early colonial times. And the truffles called the Nipples of Venus really do work as an aphrodisiac. LOL My favorite there was the balsamic and olive oil truffle and all the chocolates with chile and pine nuts. mmmm. I'm packing an extra suitcase!

Chocolatesmith makes a larger variety of things like toffee and nut barks. My favorite there was the orange chocolate bark - a Cremesicle in chocolate form, their fudge and toffee and the green chile almond bark. Woof! We spent an hour and a half in there sampling and buying chocolate and chatting with the geniuses who work there and didn't even notice the time! Oh, and 7 lbs of chocolate for our road trip last fall. Yes, all of it got eaten before we arrived in LA! and I lost 5 lbs on this trip!

140 characters.

In my mind the biggest difference between Twitter & Facebook is that you can follow people on Twitter, whether you know them or not. As a result of who I've chosen to follow, the conversations are more meaningful to me.

I've also made some amazing connections in the very brief time I've been on Twitter. I was a skeptic at first, but now I'm somewhat obsessed!

I'm SeattleTallPopp (based on my blog).
