Another "unofficial poll" -- what is the most unusual thing(s) you've ever eaten?

My rattlesnake spaghetti sauce was pretty unusual. Someday I'll write about that, it was pretty

funny.

I loved the marinated deep fried alligator in New Orleans. Frog legs were common, as was rabbit, but that's not too weird.

I ate an ant by accident once, so bitter! when I was a kid, I put the bag of chips on the ground, the ants got in there, I wasn't looking and ewww.

Also, the other night a fruit fly flew into my rose. high protein rose, ick.

Frog's legs and cows tongue...But, depends on your perspective...I recall dh grandmother thinking

that tomato sauce was unusual...

I made it for her many years ago in hungary...Brought my own ingredients to impress my future family, etc...I made a 6 hour tomato sauce in her kitchen. (It was wonderful!) She smiled, and said she enjoyed it, ((even not speaking the language, I could tell she didn't really like it)) She could not believe it could be red without paprika! To her, tomato sauce was "unusual!"

Ligaments. It was the "meat" in a stir fry we had whilst in China. >>>

( I just had to ask....meal wasn't quite as tasty after I found out what that "meat" was)

sea slugs, chicken feet -- an Ambassador's wife served us some kind of testicles, but I passed.

The chicken feet were bbq-ed and served in a soup ordered by an amusing chinese friend in Kuala Lumpur. He didn't think I would eat them. If he had served the above, I probably would have eaten them!

Oh yes!! At a game park in southern Africa we were treated to "mopane worms" at a sundowner. They turned out to be vienna sausages in bbq sauce! LOL.

Choco-covered ants I can relate to as a child - LOL! As I got older and developed a finer palate...

I indulged in Gator Bites while visiting Dad in FL. While eating same, I saw an alligator swim by while eating them with a Scotch on the rocks from an upper deck of a very nice local restaurant located on a wildlife sanctuary lake.

All exotic treats can be defined as tasting like "chicken".

Horse meat sashimi (raw) in Japan!

It was kinda like tartare. Served very cold (almost frozen) with grated garlic and shoyu.

It was okay, but not something I'd need to eat again.

Muktuk. Rocky Mtn Oysters. both just once

oh, and young willow leaves---picked fresh and put into a taco salad. had the runs for 2 days. I just can't do Native AK food.

What some Italians call sofrito-but unlike the typical seasoning, it contains lungs, heart, spleen..

in a spicy tomato based sauce. Sounds terrible--tastes pretty good with lots of bread to dip---especially if you don't know what's in it--like when I was a kid.
