My daughter asked tonight what she should bring to a party that was 80's themed.

She would need do ahead dishes as it is a work day for her, but any ideas would be welcome.

Thanks!

So many have come back!! That spinach dip is SO good. The cheese wrapped

olives were de rigeur at every cocktail party back then. ANY kind of cheese ball!! Make one with blue cheese and it is as good as any cheese tray.
Marinated whole button mushrooms. serve with toothpicks.
Pesto in cherry tomato cups.
In the South, cheese straws (the little crisp cheese "cookies") never left!!

Funny! I think as 80's as part of my current cooking! That was when Chicken Marbella came into

vogue, anything with sundried tomatoes, bacon wrapped ritz, cheese balls, cool whip / cherry pie. (I think the last few were the 70's)....

Your dd will have fun dressing / doing her hair / makeup! even candy, I can distinguish with 80s.

(Fruit stripe gum, lollypop rings, pop rocks)....

Food is a tough one, since I think it was a time when a lot of recipes have evolved, and not a time when something was defined. (Not sure if that makes sense)....

Creamy Cherry Cream Cheese Pie

Of course, you can use homemade graham cracker crust (I add a sprinkle of cinnamon w/sugar and melted butter) and fresh fruit topping, but this is easy, can be made ahead (top w/pie filling right before serving) and soooo yummy!

I like to use "dessert pizza" toppings of sliced strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, a ring of kiwi slices, and glaze/brush entire top and fruit with either lightly warmed apricot/peach preserves or orange marmalade (can thin a bit if needed with 1-2 Tbs of water while warming). You can sprinkle pie filling or glazed top with sliced almonds.

Be sure to have a wet paper towel to wipe knife between cuts. Licking the knife clean then cutting the next slice is not suggested smileys/wink.gif

1 ready-made graham cracker pie crusts or 1 chocolate wafer pie crust
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup lemon juice
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 (20 ounce) can cherry pie filling

In a medium bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth.
Add sweetened condensed milk, blending well.
Add lemon juice and vanilla until well blended.
Pour into pie crust and chill 3 hours, or until firm.
Add cherry filling on top of pie.
You can also use blueberry, or strawberry pie filling.

Her life was Too short!~ When I was a teenager, I worked at a gourmet cheese shop, they were so cutting edge,

the store rented a mini van and brought all of the staff to Silver Palate in NYC to experience what "Great looked like" I had behind the scenes talks re: oils, cheeses, olives, etc... It was quite an experience for me.

The owners goals was to replicate that in our small town.

It worked!! Until Kings moved in town. : (
