I went through the appitizer section in T&T but nothing jumped out at me. I want to have a couple of friends over to watch our fav comedy and was thinking of serving little things that can be picked up and not messy while watching the movie. my brain is just not working.... TIA

The gougere up at 5899 are good to pop in the mouth. I add chopped green onion and chopped pickled

jalapeno to the batter for a punch of flavor. Can be made day ahead and crisped in the oven before the movie. Something different.

the gougere did catch my eye. I figured popcorn wouldn't be a good idea,

nothing like buttery fingers to really mess up a wine glass. the crunch looks awesome but I can't do the sugar.

I'm trying to keep palates happy and fingers clean. if I could handle the wheat, I'd just order pizza and put it on the coffee table... yum.

mini quiches, brie-stuffed cherry tomatoes, stuff celery (recipe...)

I like to make this and stuff it in celery, but it would go well with a number of things:

Chunky Peanut Butter Spread

This is great spread on crackers, toast, stuffed into celery, or as a dip for fruit

1 4-oz. package whipped cream cheese
1/2 cup chunky peanut butter
2 tbl. milk
1 tbl. honey
1/2 cup finely snipped raisins or dried apricots
Flaked coconut, optional

In small mixing bowl, stir together cream cheese and peanut butter. Add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time until blended. Stir in honey, raisins or apricots. Using a rubber spatula, scrape into a small serving bowl. Sprinkle with a little coconut if desired. Cover and refrigerate any leftovers.

Rec: Balsamic Roasted Pearl Onions and Cheese. These are delicious>>>

and perfect finger food. They can be made the day ahead and brought to room temp before serving. Yum!

Balsamic Roasted Pearl Onions & Cheese
Serving Size : 24

1 1/2 pounds pearl onions
1/3 cup olive oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
salt and pepper
3/4 pound fontina cheese -- 1/3" cubes

Preheat oven to 375 F. Blanch onions in boiling, salted water 30 seconds; drain. Slice off the root end. "Peel" the onions by pressing them slightly between your fingers; the inner part will slip out of the papery skin.

Whisk together oil, vinegar, salt and pepper. Put onions in a roasting pan, add oil-vinegar mixture, and toss to coat well. Bake until tender, about 25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool in pan. Taste; adjust seasoning as necessary.

To serve, place 2 onions and 1 cheese cube on each cocktail skewer.

NOTES : The onions can be roasted a few days ahead; the cheese can be cubed and wrapped in plastic a day in advance. The cheese will cube better if cold, but both onions and cheese taste better at room temperature.

The gougeres would be good. No mess. How about the smoked salmon and brie stuffed wonton wrappers?

Also, many many many years ago, I used to saute finely minced/chopped mushrooms with lemon juice and curry, spread on slightly flattened (rolling pin) white bread (no crusts) then rolled up and secured with a toothpick. I'd then brush a little butter on them, cut each piece into 4 (more toothpicks) and bake them until they were warm and toasted a little.

I was soooo young then. But they're simple for a movie night. Each one is a mouthful. No mess.

These mini corn dogs posted by orchid might be OK, but they do have 1c flour.

Do you substitute for wheat, or are most of the ideas we are giving you not doable because of the flour? This is a toughy. I was thinking plain popcorn mixed with the spiced nuts. I make mine with frothy egg white, splenda and cinnamon/pumpkin pie spice. bake till glazed. mini pigs in a blanket with cocktail smokies are good, but you probably can't do the pastry either.

I'm always making little munchies and the other night I made Ham & Asparagus roll-ups>>>

and they were great. I just steamed the asparagus until just tender. I mixed cream cheese, prepared horseradish and Dijon and spread on slices of thin sliced deli ham laid out to fit the size of the asparagus. Laid one asparagus spear on the ham and rolled up tight. I wrapped in plastic wrap and chilled. I sliced them into about 1" pieces. Very pretty and tasty. Very finger food.

Rec: Stuffed Cucumber Slices...I'm on a veggy roll aren't I? These are a favorite>>>

with everyone. I don't hollow out the cucumber any more, I just score it so it will be pretty and slice. Then I just put a dab of the cream cheese mixture on top of the rounds. They are so great cold.

Stuffed Cucumber Slices

Serving Size : 20

1 large cucumber
1 3 oz. pack cream cheese
1 tablespoon blue cheese -- crumbled
1 teaspoon onion -- grated
2 teaspoons parsley -- minced
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
20 pimiento strips

In a small bowl, combine cream cheese, blue cheese, onion, parsley and dill weed. Cover and refrigerate.

Score cucumber by pressing tines of a fork about 1/16" into peel at one end and pulling tines lengthwise leaving grooves. Slice into 1/4" rounds. Place a dab of cream cheese mixture in center of each slice and place a pimiento strip on top.

thanks Ang, but pastry is the problem. I just had a change in the suppliments

I take and he thinks it will finish off the systemic candida in about a month and then I can have wheat again... wooohooo!!!!! there have been some great receipes posted that I haven't been able to try. looks like it's going to be a great summer for cooking smileys/smile.gif

I love the celery recipe cheezz, thanks smileys/smile.gif can't do the sugar on the popcorn but I do love it.

can you use those little, frozen pearl onions for this? sounds easy and yummy smileys/smile.gif

the cucu sounds good too. i love that some of these recipes are so different, what fun!

is the smoked salmon recipe posted somewhere here? I'd love to take a look at that one.

I keep the wheat to a minium and usually just avoid it myself but still cook with it for friends.

Oh - another but not exactly finger food - need fork...

the BIG appetizer trend I see here right now is shrimp & grits and from the same place I got the latke w/smoked salmon, they used martini glasses and put a base of grits in it then scooped a few shrimp on top. Makes for a lovely presentation.
