any ideas on how to soften hardened candied fruit peel? Not the supermarket, small plastic

container variety but rather some good strips of orange and lemon peel that I bought in France. It has been refrigerated. Good to munch but I want to chop it for cookies.

 
I'd probably start with a couple seconds in the microwave

and see if that achieves the results you desire.
