Any Mark Bittman fans out there? I've read him here and there but wondering what

I've got quite a few of his books including the original HTCE

It's on the shelf next to Joy of Cooking and Doubleday - two of my other favorite basics. Just got the new version but haven't sat down to read it yet, the vegetarian version as well as the international and the one that was a show where he went up against restaurant chefs creating a similar but much more average cook friendly version of their dish. I've used them all a good bit but in particular the international version. Very good with a wealth of stuff from ALL places - if you needed one international cookbook - this might be it.

The new edition looks good to me, I gave several as presents.....

one to my busy daughter with a family. She loved it and quickly made 3 things from it, all of them easy and good. I then bought one for myself but it hasn't arrived. Good illustrations for beginning cooks too. I love his blog and video's in the Wed. NYTimes too.

Traca, Will be anxious to hear about your lunch with Bittman. Bet it will be interesting!

How fun - he seems to have a little attitude but then again, what's wrong with that? The new book

has been in my purse since Saturday and I am starting it tonight right after I log off here. I am a junkie when it comes to food and sustainability trying to read as much as I can just to understand the viewpoints and form my own views.

Hey Missy, I'm with you. The book that has really captured my attention is Organic, Inc.

Reading about California strawberries was worth the price of the book. Yowza.

Really, thanks for the link. I ended up reading that article along with

others linked to at that site. VERY informative.

He can go straight to heaven after publishing his cornstarch ice cream base recipe--enjoy lunch!! smileys/smile.gif

I'm so glad you mentioned that! I can't remember if I've made it yet....Definitely need

to make a batch!
