Any of you guys into Top Chef or Food Network Star- and your opinion .

I swore I wouldn't, but I do watch Top Chef...

Hey Cyn -

My current tv viewing consists of three programs: 24, the Amazing Race, and Top Chef. I did watch Project Runway (totally reminiscent of architecture school for me) and saw the trailers for TC, which I didn't find very compelling from the clips. However, I did get hooked after watching an episode.

My bets are on LeeAnne or Tiffani, although Tiffani lost me with the Boys and Girls Club episode. I thought Tom Colicchio was brilliant on that point.

I like Dave okay, but I don't think he'll win. Love to hate Stephen - what a prima donna!

Who do you think will win?

I did watch one episode of Food Network Star, but didn't get hooked, so I haven't seen it again. I heard they're doing a second season of Hell's Kitchen, but I don't know when that's slated to start.

Yes I watch both these programs

and am also into Project Runway and horror of horrors Top Model. I surprise myself as I've never watched the survivor type programs i.e. nothing where they get to eat bugs. I like Top Chef better than food network. I thing FN has gone thoroughly overboard with the entertainment side, especially the prime time programs to the detriment of real cooking. Top chef does some weird things, like the tasting of far out foods. The junk food tasting was much more fun. I also don't go for so-called "fusion cooking" just sounds like a haphazard mess to me. I think Tiffanie has learned from her mistakes and has redeemed herself but Stephen !!!!. But then all these shows play such games with the contestants, keeping the wierdos for the ratings value so I don't take him too seriously. I don't really understand all these time limits, either. I think the challenges have been fun, but I would have structured them differently for instance the pushcart challenge could have involved creative ways with hot dogs.

Just saw TC for the first time yesterday and watched 3 episodes!

Not sure about anyone but Steven- can't believe he's still on after the Junior League disaster!
Also watched FN which I think is pretty boring.
DH can't understand why I watch either one, though.

Guilt of watching Top Chef....

I can't get into the Food Network Star thing - not last time and not this time.

Top Chef is OK but not great. I don't know why they have to have such jerks and keep them time after time. Besides, isn't this supposed to be about their cooking talents or is it a popularity/talent contest with cooking as the sideline?

The one that impressed me the most was the one on PBS with Todd English, Ming Tsai, and Michael Ruhlman called Cooking Under Fire. No real jerks out to get each other with only minor flack among them. Chefs being critical but in a good way, no un-neceesary harshness or rudeness.

I do watch them, but seems possibly some of the ---

cooks are thrown in for entertainment as much as cooking skills? Have worked with too many "Steves", no fun! My favorite is Iron Chef America, love it.
