Any Oscar party food plans?

The Oscars start earlier and earlier every year it seems. This year they are advertizing coverage starts at 2pm, well, that's getting close to backing it up all the way to lunch!

We're just a small group who get together to watch at a friend's, and this year we'd planned to make it easy for dinner by trying out a local pizza place that won the international pizza competition, buuuuut...

Since it's starting so early thought it might be nice to make/bring some munchies that are theme worthy.

I'm toying with the idea of Oscar statue cookies, but can't find any cutters (expect they are TM - boo) so still have my thinking cap on.

Are you making anything?

I don't think I'm following you Maria. The Oscars are being carried

on TV by ABC and the Red Carpet starts at 7 PM. The show starts at 8:30, all eastern. So that would be 4 for the Red Carpet and 5:30 for the big show for you in Calif. Right?Maybe you're talking about the Red Carpet coverage that starts much earlier on (I think) E?

Make your own templates - I do this when something special that I don't need hundreds of

I find a picture or hand draw the outline, cut it out of heavy stock paper, lay it on the dough and use a sharp paring knife to cut out. This is good to do when it's a small number that you need and a one-time event.

I found out long ago (probably from here) to roll out the dough on parchment paper and cut the cookies, remove the excess dough from around the cookies - but don't move the cookies. Where they are when they're cut out is where they'll stay on the paper. I move the paper to the baking sheet and then into the oven. I used to end up with mishapened ones because I tried to move them from the cutting surface to the tray.

I'm in CA - my local ABC is running ads saying coverage starts at 2pm (red carpet)

Oh for me, the red carpet is one of the best parts!

We have fun noshing/cocktails and people/fashion watching. Then we'll have dinner likely around 8pm. At 5pm PT they have the short A-list arrivals, but we like to see everyone and make a day of it.

Oh Tess - that not moving idea is genius!

I could roll on a silpat and slide the whole thing onto the cookie sheet! I had thought about just cutting my own out. I've done it for a few other things, expect if I decide to do this will have to, but was feeling lazy, plus that's a cutter I would use again.

Oh duh! I am a week off...well that's not really new is it. Is it possible

to copy the photo of the cutter and then blow the size up and print out? I can do that on our HP scanner/printer. Just a thought. But then there are those cookies.....

Probably will be making these again this year, because they are fun to make, but

no really good idea on what I could use them for. Decorating a cake (standing up), but I don't really want to make a cake. One on a sugar cookie? Oh well, maybe the cake idea unless I find something better.

They are made out of peanut butter candy wafers. Oops, a little small, but you get the idea...
