Any thoughts on Toaster Ovens? I have never had one, never thought I wanted one...BUT

recently, I have noticed that I am using my large oven for small lil things. I think it might work for me. Any thoughts? I was surprised at how the prices vary. ((I thought they were all around $30.00!...Not the case))

I don't want anything too large, and am struggling to understand why I would need convection. Thoughts?

Still on the fence for the use...

Thank in advance for your thoughts!

Best,

Barb

Barb, I use mine all the time. It's great for toast because you can put any size or shape of bread

into it--something you can't do with a pop-up toaster. I use the broiler and oven a lot for small things, like reheating a few slices of pizza or quiche, or for a small baked dish. It comes in handy when my other oven is occupied.

I use my several times every day! I bought a Cuisinart classic. It

was more expensive than the others but does more because it is bigger.
In addition to the usual toast, bagels -waffles -we also use it to melt cheese on bagels, or toasted pita. I use it to cook side dishes for dinner parties (when oven space is at a premium) as well as everyday sides. It holds a small/med. casserole dish. I purchased it at Linen's and Things - and I went to the dish dept. and brought a few casserole dishes to the toaster oven dept. to see what size would fit. For our lifestyle I wouldn't be without it. I have owned the cheaper models and they take about 8 minutes to brown a slice of toast! It seems like forever in the morning when everyone is on the go! Hope this helps. I don't own a lot of appliances - but this and the dutch oven I use.

I use mine almost every day for things like

toasting bagels, english muffins, bread, reheating pizza slices, toasting nuts, small casseroles, tuna melt sandwiches. It's an el-cheapo Black & Decker toaster oven similar to the one at the link though not that model number. Haven't had a toaster for at least 10 years as the toaster oven does the trick. Haven't felt the need for convection yet so I personally wouldn't spring for that feature. A toaster oven comes in handy too in the summer when you want to heat something without heating up the house using the conventional oven...saves energy that way too.

I haven't had a toaster since 1980 - use the toaster oven for all the things mentioned.

It works faster than your oven because of the smaller space that needs heating - I roast my garlic and peppers, melt cheese on sandwiches, toast nuts and seeds, etc.

I don't have the convection model so can't comment on that, although my sis has a convection oven and the difference is that you get even air circulation and so, even baking - I think that would be important if you are baking small things like tarts.

Toaster Oven is used every day in my house.

I measured the interior and bought heavy ceramic dishes that fit in singly or in pairs. With the toaster oven I can bake small dishes without heating up the kitchen in the summer or wasting a lot of energy heating up the big oven. I also use it to reheat most of what I reheat (since I loathe microwaved food).

I always have a toaster oven on hand and use it all the time. However bits break all the time

so that the toaster part doesn't work or the oven part doesn't work. I now have a cheap pop up toaster and a cheap "toaster" oven (the toaster timer doesn't work) both of which I use all the time. I've had all brands from Krups to B&D and none of them work perfectly for more than a year.

I have one with a removal inner case for easier cleaning....

I use it everyday and the metal liner case can go in the dishwasher

I boubht one because my apartment oven is really slow to heat....

it takes 45 minutes or more to preheat! So I got a Delonghi convection toaster oven and I just love it. Takes 2-5 minutes to preheat, even to 450. I can roast a chicken in it (if I use a smaller roasting pan) it fits a full size frozen pizza in there (okay, okay, I had one ONCE!), and I use it all the time for toast, bacon, roasting potatoes, baked apple oatmeal, rolls, etc. and for warming plates and keeping things warm.

Also, Eric Ripert has a really cute website and one of his sponsors is Cuisinart, they have a 'brick oven" convection oven and it looks really really nice, I've been checking out the reviews on Amazon. It seems to have a better broil function than my DeLonghi. It's around $299. His website has recipes for the toaster oven which I think look terrific - check them out!

I'd be interested in which you choose. I can see a really good one would solve my problem with

just one oven. I'd just have to find a place to put it.
