Anybody grill fruit, possibly fruit kabobs? Would love to benefit from your experiences.

What I do

I peel pineapple, slice into thick slabs, and grill. Then serve and eat with knife and fork like a steak, treating the core as the "bone". Saves time and the mess of coring. Plus it's much easier to grill the large slabs.

I also do peach halves.

I like to keep the pieces big because it's much easier to grill. Never have done fruit kabobs.

I do pineapple slices, too. Peach halves, drizzled with honey. I've done kabobs with

nectarines, pineapple, apricots, grapes, papaya, strawberries, peaches and those little orange things that I can't think of the name of. Wooden skewers that have been soaked in apple juice (or any other kind, I guess- I just always have apple in the house).

Mandarin oranges?? I love the idea of soaking the skewers in Apple juice, while I have never done

them, I always read to soak in water...I love your method! This has been on the list to try, especially with the warm weather. Sounds wonderful with Vanilla Ice Cream.

Barb

A popular item on our dinner menu

I macerate fresh pineapple chunks with Triple Sec and chopped fresh mint, skewer than grill. Also and even more often, I skewer pineapple then marinate in low sodium Kikkoman's soy sauce with minced garlic and grill. Sounds like a weird combo but it is very tasty.

I macerate them in rum. with no grill, I pat some brown sugar on them and broil

till they carmelize. you can put them over vanilla ice cream and flame with rum. smileys/smile.gif

LOL - I went through a whole bottle when I made the rum baba a few weeks ago.

made it in a bundt pan and had to double the rum syrup. then, we had so much fun flaming it that I had to flame it twice.... will my friends ever grow up? .... I hope not '-)))
