Anyone cooking for Valentine's Day?

We never go out to a restaurant, especially not when the day falls on Saturday. I will probably be cooking Chicken Tarragon, a heavenly French dish that uses tons of whipping cream and about a pound of butter. My husband loves it. I will probably make chocolate mousse for desert. Just need to figure out a vegetable.

We are staying in as well. I'm not sure yet what we're making. I love tarragon chicken

we make Julia Child's version, heavenly!

I like a green veggie with it - steamed broccoli or green beans with some lemon zest? It is nice with wild rice as a side.

My version is from the NYT Cookbook, but it's probably pretty similar.

I like the idea of French green beans--the ones that squeak, you know? Something simple and fresh. Maybe a salad with all that grapefruit I have--!

My husband refuses to recognize Valentine's Day as anything special, but I do like to mark the day in some way. Last year I had pneumonia and he had the flu so we had chicken soup and store-bought chocolate mousse and watched "A Little Romance."

I always cook' but this year we got invited to an underground restaurant

so we're going to find out what that is all about.

We love the NYT tarragon chicken too!!

What can be better than chicken, cream and tarragon?

Just a casual friend but here's the menu...

so casual dinner as well:

-Some kind of Pacific smoked salmon canapes
- raspberry daiquiris
-Clam & spinach soup with Pernod
-Blue cheese endive salad
-Whole duck rotissed on the Q & served with blackberry maple sauce
-Sauteed Manitoba wild rice with cremini, green onion, etc.
-Julienne of red pepper, sweet onion, zucchini, fennel
-Mini red velvet cakes with cream cheese frosting drizzle...or
-coeur a la creme and heart-shaped sugar cookies

It sounds a little more elaborate when it shows up in writing, but really, just an ordinary dinner (as long as I can get someone to go out for the bacon for the soup). This is an alone fellow I like to have over when I feel guilty that he isn't getting decent meals, so it's not really about Val Day. i.e. there will be NO kissing in this house.

What a lucky friend he is to have you! Don't be surprised if he tries to kiss you--great menu! smileys/smile.gif

He cancelled this morning. This is what happens to men without wives. No calendar control. He had

a prior commitment that he was reminded of.

Good thing it isn't a fussy dinner. But the point is that he'll be fed.
