Anyone else seen "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" (on Netflix)? We watched tonight--beautiful.

The story of an 85-year-old sushi master and one of the most esteemed sushi chefs in Japan. The cinematography is excellent, and Jiro's philosophy of sushi and the art of living (which is a lot more monastic than that phrase makes it sound) is utterly compelling. I recommend it--even if you don't care for sushi, the film's commentary on a life devoted to the art of work is really stunning.

Saw the trailer...it hasn't come to our area yet. Looks alot like "Step up to the Plate"

You can actually see the angst on the chef's face as he tries to determine the exact placement of a single ingredient.

I am not worthy of that kind of attention to food. But the delight from "Babette's Feast" will always draw me back to food movies.

Yesterday I had several doc appts and after the first one Larry & I had lunch at BJ's. Larry ordered fried chicken and I had salmon. More appts, then we drove 40 miles to try out a vegan/raw restaurant in St. Augustine where the food was very, very good. Then we finished off the day with a scoop of Kilman's ice cream.

So...a recap of our day: fried meat, cooked fish, then raw salad, raw soup, dehydrated crackers, spirulina blueberry smoothie and finally full-dairy ice cream.

Ya...we aren't following any culinary dictum.
