The editor (Judith Griggs) of a little food magazine based in Western Mass. published a story by a writer by lifting it from her website without permission. The writer found out and contacted the magazine asking for a public apology and a donation to Columbia Journalism School. Judith Griggs responded with an email saying that Internet content is public domain and that she actually did the writer a favor by editing the piece and that the writer should pay her. (!!!)
The writer published all this on her blog, and then the word got out onto the Interwebz. The amount of vitriol is amazing (The Cooks Source FB page is filled with angry comments).
So people got to digging into the past issues of the magazine. Apparently Griggs has published stolen content from Linda Stradley (who used to post here and at Gail's), Martha Steward, WebMD, NPR, Paula Dean, and Disney (Griggs is in for a world of hurt--nobody messes with the Mouse).
My guess is that Cooks Source is a one-woman operation and that Griggs is now hiding under her bed with her computer and phone both disconnected. I'll be interested to see what happens.
