Anyone have suggestions/tips for buying a vacuum sealer? TIA.

Thanks you all... a few questions.

There seems to be a pretty wide price range - $70 to $200. Some are upright. Some hold the roll internally. I saw 4 different Food Saver models at Target. Is it worth going above the very basic model?

Just don't get the real small one. You want to be able to

use the larger bags as well as the smaller ones. If you're planning to use it on the counter, the one that stands upright saves some space, but they all seem to work well. I like the pulse mode. I use it when I don't want things to get crushed.

I also love mine. I found a packet of beef in the freezer

last week - I have no idea how long it had been there, but there was NO freezer burn.

I have an old food saver. We've had it at least 20 years. It still works great...

...and it gets used a lot. The key is to keep it out so it is handy. Otherwise it tends to be a hassle to get it out and set it up.

I didn't like the upright counter one...

I have what I'm guessing is the standard one given I've had it for 20+ years. Anyhoo, a few years back I was visiting at mom's and decided I wanted to make a bunch of premade meals for her freezer. So I bought the fancy pants one that had the roll inside that sat upright on the counter. I really hated it compare to my old one. It just seemed cumbersome and harder to use, I returned it.
