Anyone interested in A Bourdain's comments on P Deen's diabetes? Covers it all.

Much as I like Bourdain, I'll be interested in Paula's comments when HE comes down with arterial

sclerosis, cirrhosis of the liver, emphysema and hep-C. I think he was over the top with this and his little diatribe ticked me off which takes some doing. He who lives in a glass house . . .

Rude dynamics drum up image traffic. The name of the game is visibility. And see...it's working.

People like this could care less what we think. What's important is that we buy their magazines and watch their shows and purchase their audio and cookbooks.

When Boudain first opened his mouth about Paula I was shocked

I've read his books! He has no business bashing her that way. He is no saint!

My favorite line in this vein is when Madonna was in her prime...

...doing obscene things on stage during her shows and more crazy stuff in public, David Letterman would talk about the latest stunt, whatever it was, during his monologue. He'd give the camera a deadpan stare and say, "I think she's trying to shock us."

Message received.

My impression is that Bourdain obviously fancies himself a "real chef" and wears...

...his scars like badges of honor. Anyone who hasn't experienced HIS brand of "suffering" isn't worth their salt, or deserving of fame, fortune and felicity.

As part of his attempt to "stay relevant" he has appointed himself Judge, Jury and Executioner over anyone who dares enter the arena where he holds court. In other words, he's brash and opinionated, and he gets paid handsomely for it.

Such is life...

I remember when Madonna's overpriced picture book "SEX" came out..

Erma Bombeck's column began, "Would somebody please notice Madonna so we can all get on with our lives?"

I remember that too! Bombeck was a favorite in our house. Comedian John Caponera...

...wonders if Madonna was held enough as a child.

Bourdain IS a real chef...

Bourdain graduated culinary school, worked in and ran many kitchens in NYC finally reaching executive chef -

Deen is a caterer who opened a small restaurant that serves good buffet meals - she has never worked a line a day in her life...

I'm aware of his credentials. I quoted "real chef" perhaps incorrectly, but to emphasize...

...that he has little or no patience for those who cook in front of the masses and make money.

He's mildly to moderately entertaining but his arrogance gets old fast, in my opinion.

I've never cooked anything of his, but I've gotten a lot of pleasure from some of Paula's recipes, along with a few other recipes from cooks he derides.

He's an ass, and he glories in it.

I don't see what's wrong with expressing opinions - everyone does it...

you just did it!

Besides, he's not the only chef or cook who has expressed his "disdain" as you put it, toward Deen, there is a big queue outside her door at the moment.

Nothing wrong with expressing ones opinion. His tone...

...is mean-spirited, arrogant and foul-mouthed. I watch his show ("No Reservations"??) whenever I'm at a home where they have cable. I've read one-and-a-half of his books. I find his attitude wears on me, and I tire of it, eventually. That's just me.

His verbal attack on Deen and other TV cooks fits right into that model for me. I don't pay much attention to him any more because of his nasty attitude. He sounds like a lot of ex-junkie addicts who don't understand that their self-inflicted suffering is no worse than anyone elses. I worked with them for years in a rehab setting in San Diego, and his posturing sounds very, very familiar.
